Historical Background

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) was established in 1975 as a means to streamline and professionalize the recruitment process for India’s banking sector. Initially operating as a Personnel Selection Service (PSS), it transformed into an autonomous body in 1984, officially named IBPS. Over the years, IBPS introduced a range of specialized examinations to fill crucial roles in public sector banks, including the Agricultural Field Officer (AFO) position. By ensuring merit-based, transparent recruitment, IBPS has played a pivotal role in building a robust banking workforce that supports India’s economic growth and development, particularly in the agricultural sector.
